what is word processor
Word processor:- it is the application software.

It enables to type text, create documents, compose
letters and can also help in editing modifying, printing and saving them.

Open office writer , ms word, Abiword, kword ,
wordperfect and lyx are the example of word processor.

There are following features of word processor such
as:-
§ We can edit
the document in easily way without making the document messy. There is no need
to rewrite or retype the whole document while doing alteration.
§ It provides
interactive interface which makes it convenient to type document without using
pages or pens.
§ In word
processor we can easily navigate between pages. i.e. A user can easily switch
from one page to other page.
§ It also
provides formatting features so that user can change the look of document by
changing colour , underline , style or appearance of the text, etc.
§ In word
processor graphical picture can be added in the document. there are various
tools to draw figures are also provided in many word processors.
§ It also
provides spelling and grammar features. It detects the spelling and grammatical
mistakes made in a document and provide suggestions to rectify them.
§ It also
provides OLE(object linking and Embedding) features that helps to link or embed
various objects in a document from outside.
§ It also provides
mail merge features that helps to sent multiple copies of the same letters to
any one.
§ It also
provides an auto-complete feature of a word processor helps in automatic typing of
certain words, phrases, symbols, etc.
Character formatting
:-the process of
changing appearance of text or character is known as character formatting .
Change the font style , size , colour..etc are the
character formatting process.
Superscript:- it is a features of word processor
that raises the text above the baseline and decreases the font size.
e.g.- A2 + B2 , x2 H2
subscript:- it is a features of word processor
that lowers the text below the base line and decreases the font size.
e.g.- H2 O ,
co2 H2
spacing :- it enables the font to expand or
contract width wise.
Pair kerning :- it is a
features of word processor that enables to apply automatic kerning for fonts
above a certain size by adjusting the font size in points , if necessary.
Kerning :- it is the adjustment of space between
letters so that no letter appears too far from its neighbouring characters.
Format paintbrush :- it is a tool which is used to apply
the same type of formatting which is on a particular content to some other
content.
Q .How to use format paint brush?
First of all select the formatted text.
After that go to format painter option and click on it.
After that click on desired content or text which to be
format.
Text Alignment:- it is the layout of the text in a
paragraph with respect to the page margins i.e. the position of the text in a
paragraph , with respect to the different margins of the document.

The alignment of the text is always in horizontal direction in word
processor.
Horizontal Alignment
:- The alignment of the text with respect to left and right margins of the
document is known as horizontal alignment.

Left alignment is the default horizontal alignment.

Indentation :- it is the process of setting gap or space between the
lines or paragraph from edge margin.

The margin settings
are applied to the whole document or the text area but indentation sets the
space of paragraph from the margin with respect to the rest of the text that is
below or above it.

There are four types
of indentation can be set in such a way :-
1.
Before text
2.
After text
3.
First line
4.
Hanging

Before text indentation:- This is used to apply the indentation on text from the
left margin.
2.
After text indentation :- This is used to apply the indentation on text from
right margin.
3.
First Line indentation :- This is used to apply the indentation in first line
of the paragraph from the left margin.
4.
Hanging indentation :- This is used to apply the indentation on all lines of
the paragraph except the first line of the paragraph from the left margin.
How to apply
indentation in paragraph ?
► First of all select the paragraph and go to paragraph
launcher tool and click on it.
► Set the indent value( left or right) or select first line or hanging
option.
► After that click on ok button.
Line spacing :- it is the vertical gap between different lines of text in a paragraph.
¦ It is measured in lines or in points.
¦ It can be set to single spacing , 1.5 lines spacing ,
Double spacing etc.
How to set line spacing ?
► First of all select the paragraph or lines of the text.
► Click on ‘Indent & Spacing’ tab of the paragraph.
► Set the line spacing by using different such as single , 1.5 lines ,
double , at least , proportional, leading and fixed .
Paragraph spacing :- it is the space or the gap between the paragraphs. Space
can be specified in lines or in points.
How to set paragraph spacing?
► First of all select the paragraph.
► After that click
on the paragraph launcher tool from the standard toolbar.
► Go to indents
& Spacing features and set the value of paragraph spacing either above a paragraph or below the paragraph by increasing or decreasing values.
Page orientation:- it refers to the layout of the page in which the
documents get printed either in landscape or portrait mode.
¦ In portrait mode orientation, the page is printed
lengthwise i.e. from top to bottom.
¦ In landscape mode orientation, the page is printed
width-wise i.e. from side to side.
How to set the page
orientation?
► First of all, go to the Page Layout menu and click on it.
► After that click on the orientation option and select
orientation option either portrait or landscape option and click on it.
Margin:- it is the gap between the edge and beginning of the text i.e. the outer the boundary of text in a document beyond which the contents of the document do not
flow.
► In the document, the default margins are 0.79” on top and
bottom and 0.79” on the left and right.
► There are the following types of a margin such as:-
1. Left
margin
2. Right
margin
3. Top
margin
4. Bottom
margin.
v Left
margin:- The space between the text and left edge of the page
is known as the left margin.
v Right
margin:- The space between the text and right edge of the page is
known as the right margin.
v Top
margin:- The space between the text and top edge of the page is
known as top margin.
v Bottom
margin:- The space between the text and the bottom edge of the page is known as the Bottom margin.
Header:- it is a repetitive text that always displays at the
top of each page which are included in the document.
Footer:- :- it is a repetitive text that always displays at the
bottom of each page which are included in the document.
How to set the margin?
► First of all open the document.
► Go to the ruler and select either horizontal or vertical ruler.
If you want to set-top and bottom margin then select a vertical ruler otherwise
select a horizontal ruler to set left to the right margin.
How to set header and
footer?
► First of all, go to insert menu
► After that click on either header or footer option.
► After that select the desired layout of the header or footer
and click on it.
